Well we have completed four weeks of 52 weeks to Simplify your life and I think we all need a week to catch up (if you started recently or have not done all four weeks yet) or catch your breath (if it was exhausting you).

For those of you who have hit a stumbling block with the mission statement (almost half of week 3 posters have not linked up) if you want to do it, link up this week. If you are overwhelmed with the idea I hope you will take time to read some of the linked up posts – there is no right or wrong way to do this. We have had vision boards, 1 sentence mottoes, a quote from the bible, a 6 word graphic that was expanded on in text that flowed like a conversation and many other variations on the “challenge”. The funniest thing was seeing so many people complete it, link up and say they thought they had missed the mark in some way – and yet they had nailed it perfectly (for them).
I cannot emphasize it enough – make this your own – I am just a guide. I am offering up techniques, ideas and approaches that I think will add up to simplifying your life. How you interpret these or act on them is up to you. I am learning so much from reading your posts each week so thank you for sharing this journey with me.

For those who have joined in recently or want to after reading along – you are not “late” – anyone can join in any week and start where they want to start. You can combine weeks into a single post if you want to “catch up” or post them as you write them. The linky is open to all posts as they come. I only close them off so that new posts will be seen and read by being on the latest challenge post.
For those of you all up to date with posts - you can take a break or write about how you are feeling with the process, anything related to the first four challenges, expand or update on anything you have written so far, any effects that have come about in your life as a result of the challenge so far – free choice for you!
Personally I need this week to process everything and try to get ahead so I stop writing these posts on Sunday night at 11pm (and counting). I need to get to the gym a few times and blow off some steam. I need to bake for my kids’ lunch boxes and cook some dinner for my husband. I want the time to catch up on the handful of posts I have missed from weeks two and three and to indulge in your wheel of life posts I will see coming through from today. I had planned a few catch up weeks through the challenge and even though this one was not due for two weeks I am the boss right? No rules really!
I am hoping this catch up week will see the return of some of the people from the first three weeks that have not appeared this week, but know there will be some who leave as we progress. I am loving the community of support and enthusiasm that has been developing right from the start and building.
Link up for Challenge 4 – Wheel of life (balance)
If you blogged about your wheel of life exercise please add your link below into the linky and not in the comments. If you did not blog and want to share your reflections on balance and where your life is at right now this is the time to add it into the comments of this post. I know it can be confusing so ask if you are not sure or read abouthref=”http://www.homelifesimplified.com.au/how-to-blog-for-new-and-non-techy-bloggers/” target=”_blank”> the how to’s here. If you do not see the linky REFRESH your browser and it will usually appear (email me via the blog of you need more help). You can add any blog posts related to the challenge at any time (if you started after week 1 just add your posts to link ups as you write them and note in your “name” field your blog and what week it is for). Take time and read some other posts by fellow participants – there is some great writing and insights being shared!
So – how do you feel as we hit week five? Please be honest and share any feedback you have.
Side note: in a couple of weeks we will be doing vision boards so hang on to magazines you might declutter in the next few weeks, accept offers of old mags or let yourself buy a few now knowing they will do double duty. We will use online sources as well since it is 2012 so no need to go on a spending spree…
Find your simple,
Deb

Catch up week is a great idea Deb
particularly for all the mums with kids going back to school!

Oh I’m looking forward to a bit of a break although it’ll probably be in a month when I’ll need it! I’m loving these exercises and I’m so glad you are going to catch up on some self care this week.

I haven’t done the wheel of life challenge yet although I’ve been thinking a lot about my life and what balance means to me. I’m very pleased this is a catch up week. Like so many of us bloggers I tend to think very deeply and judge myself to a high standard, so it is good to step back.
I was thinking, so you don’t burn out, could you instigate some sort of delegation, like small groups or a buddy system? That way everyone is supported but you don’t have to worry about reading every single post. Just a thought.

I had thought of a separate facebook page, but not decided whether people would use it – will think about it this week. I did not go with buddies or groups this first time doing it because 1) i worried about people dropping off as the weeks go on and then having some people without a “good” group/buddy and 2) since it is untested I wanted to stay involved the whole way through as I have plans for this for next year and reading everyone’s posts etc gives me greater insight to how to improve things (i am now calmer about it all anyway – i miss replying to a a few comments here and there, reply to a few at once too, and read the linked up posts at my own pace so feel good now!_ Thanks for thinking of ME though xxx

Seems like the perfect time to breathe! I loved this week’s task. I wasn’t concerned by the scores, but rather the balance of the wheel. I have learnt so much over these past four weeks, and I cannot thank you enough for this Deb. I haven’t ever looked at my life so positively while accepting so many things I want to change all at once. Think I’ll end up writing a reflective post this week! xx

I’m really enjoying the process, Deb, and am almost disappointed there’s no assignment this week
It really is a process of objectifying the things that are already in your head, but having that ‘aha’ moment once it’s down on paper (or on the screen… whatever!)
I love the support both of yourself, and people commenting on my blog via the linky. A Facebook page could also be a nice place to network, ask/answer questions – although this could happen on your blog FB page, anyhow

I will pose the question tomorrow morning and see if people would like a separate closed group where I would approve participants.
Go ahead and come up with your own post related to the challenge and inspire us all ; )
I like the idea of a private group on FB! And love the idea of a week’s break, but am also a bit sad I won’t have something to obsess over this week

Just what I need – a catch up opportunity. I did week 1 but never got past that. Going back to week 2 now to see what I’ve missed…

Glad to see you back – take it one challenge at a time – this really is a choose your own adventure challenge. We are here to read whatever gets posted when it gets posted!
Thanks Deb! Definitely needed this catch up week. I’m finding it hugely daunting each week to complete the tasks and do find myself putting them into the “too hard” basket. I think I’m over analysing every task way too much and trying to find the “right” answer.
I love the advice of this being a choose your own adventure challenge

Overthinking is/was a big issue for me at times. I am finding now that i push myself to “just do it” I am happier and get things done with less stress and agony. Whether it is writing a blog post (just write and get it out even if not perfect) or putting stuff away in my house (it takes 1 minute – just do it now) it is helping and freeing me!

I love the Just Breathe image! I really do need this catch up week now, since I’ve been sick the whole last week and I have so much in front of me, so I feel I go crazy. Grrr.

Deb I’ve tried a dozen times and can’t get my linky up!

OK, got my linky up now!
Next daft question – this has happened every week: I can not comment on blogspot for some reason. My comments will not come up. I have read a few who are on blogspot and have tried numerous times to comment and they will not go through – anyone have any ideas?

I am not sure – it happened to me a couple of times. i am not a blogspot blogger so have no idea how their comments work – most have annoying systems i hate (captcha, no option for name/web address etc). if they ate least have a contact form or email address on their site you can email them and ask why and/or simply pass on the comment. I can’t remember which site it was but one i tried 3 times and left and then it worked the next week so could be glitches???

I haven’t done yet the wheel of life challenge. And I must admit is because I am a bit afraid of the result. Please tell me that I have nothing to worry about?

Nothing to worry about because creating the wheel simply shows you what already exists (so whether you make the wheel or not does not change reality). The benefit of doing the exercise is reflecting, putting it into a form you can see clearly and then deciding for yourself what you might want to change to have a life you want! It also reinforces what you are already satisfied with (again not just focusing on the negative, but celebrating the areas you are happy with or you know have improved in recent times) – go on do it!

Thanks for the breather! I am yet to post my mission statement to my blog…hopefully later this week….then I’ll attempt the wheel of life exercise.

No worries Lisa – do what you can even if your posting is a week or two behind you can still keep up with the reading and commenting as you see fit!

A catch up week is nice. I need to sit down and breathe and write and think and will use some of my time this week to do that.
I have done the wheel of life activity and printed out how it turned out but have not written the post yet. I will get to it today or tomorrow hopefully.
Nothing was a 5 for me though plus only one 4 and one 3. The rest were 2s or 1s so it is kind of sad to think about all the areas. That said family and home were the ones that got 4 & 3 yet I still feel as if I am not giving them enough. Hard to find balance but I will try!

January 31, 2012 at 3:47 pm
Nothing was 5 for me either. I don’t think i would ever achieve a 5 (certainly not in all areas). I would love to see all 3s and 4s by the 3rd quarter of the year but would settle for end of the year! balance does not appear overnight. Think of it as something fluid as well that you go through periods of focus on some areas and then tweak to focus on others that get a little neglected.

Thanks so much for giving us a breather Deb! Very well timed. Though I missed last weeks linky (I have caught up this week) I have been reflecting on all the concepts and tasks a lot. Thanks again for taking care of us in this way. xxx
