in Priorities, Simplify your life 2012

Welcome to the end – or is it just the beginning?

I honestly cannot believe we are here at week 52 of “52 weeks to simplify your life”.

Thank you for being here this year

I want to thank every single person who has read along, shared their thoughts and stories in blog posts, written comments (oh especially you!), shared posts via social media or emailed me to chat about SYL. You all made this work for me when I had my own days and weeks where I too wanted to take time off. It can be very draining making changes, committing to working on your life, being honest with yourself, reflecting and taking action.

Start where you are and go at your own pace

For those who wanted to participate, but did not – remember you can start any time, work on this at your own pace, turn it into whatever you want or need it to be. Know 100% that it is not a prescription for change, but rather a prompting. The aim was to give you food for thought, set challenges and let you take yourself where you know you need to go.

Review and re-set goals

As we near the end of the year I suggest you take a few minutes to review your wheel of life and goals and see where you are now. Where do you want to head as we start the new year?

If your goals continued to be set too broadly or simply in too great a number dial things back and really consider the slow approach I emphasized. While it is great to set the greater overarching goals it is important to break them down and focus on one step at a time, building to your goals. Better to make one change per month (or even slower) and have it stick, be meaningful and attainable than charge out the gate making five changes and burn out in frustration. Trust that the end results will be there. Even one great change in a year is more effective than the guns blazing approach. Know your resources and your purpose. Make your plans, set your priorities and know you deserve what you are seeking!

Feedback for me please

I would appreciate some feedback from those of you who read my posts and / or participated (whether on your own or via blogging). My hope is to turn this material into book form somehow (ebook or other) in a way that is easily used and accessed. In order to do that I would love to learn how you felt about the material and what you liked / disliked. If you have a few minutes I would be so grateful if you would fill in this survey for me – I promise it is only 4 questions and would make a big difference to me.

For those who don’t fill in the short survey I would love it if you at least left me a comment  and tell me one change you made this year that simplified your life.

Find your simple,

Deb

Dear Debra,

Thank you so much for an amazing journey. This program was the perfect kickstart for me to make some necessary changes in my life. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together, to keep us all motivated, and respond to our questions. I hope if you do make this program into a book, its a great success!

Thank-you so much Deb for the huge amount of work you have put into SYL this year. It has been such a steadying, helpful influence in my life this eventful, at times tumultuous, year. You have a great gift for not telling others how to live, be or what to do, but instead prompting us to find what is right for each of us individually. I completed your survey and hope you have every success with a book and with whatever direction you take this year – I’m hoping you’ll still be on facebook and/or blogging with us.

Deb,
I have enjoyed this journey following the SYL lifestyle. I agree with Shell that you never tell us how to live our life, but to chose what is best for us. I have learned how to live more simply this year, but also I have learned to chose the lifestyle that is right for me! This program was perfect timing for me. It really kept me focus and to live life with intention, and not just follow everyone else. I set 6 goals this year. Here is what you helped me accomplish!
1. Spiritual/Life Purpose–My spiritual life has soared this year! My faith in God and the guiet times that I intentionally set for myself have increased over the year. I have shared God with more people this year than any other year.
2. Health/Exercise–I have always been healthy, but I needed to add more exercise in my life. You taught me that I needed to plan the exercise in my week. That I needed to take care of myself, to do it for me. I did! I lost 10lbs this year without trying!
3. Personal growth–I set a goal to learn a new language/culture, and to read 12 books this year. I read 12 books! I will continue my goal to learn a new language/culture in 2013.
4. Community/friends & family–I set a goal to host an event/party (1 each) for friends, family, & community. I actually hosted 1 for friends, 2 for family, & 2 for community.
5. Fun/Adventure–I set a goal to have more fun in 2012. To go on 4 adventure trips. It was fun living with a purpose and making choices that work for me, but I only went on 1 adventure trip this year. It was the only trip at all. I definately will be moving this to top priority in 2013.
6. Finances–I set a goal to pay off my debt, while saving money, and giving to others. I am happy to say that I saved more money this year than in the past, I was able to give to several people that were going through hard times, and I paid off my debt on December 11, 2012! May God be the Glory!
Deb, you have helped changed my life forever! You have given to all of us without asking for anything in return. I know that your book will be great, and that whatever you do in the future will be a success! If I can do anything for you, just ask!
Happy 2013!
Denise

Hi Deb,
I know I didn’t participate every week on my blog, but I want you to know I always read, and always thought about it every week. I got so much out of the weeks I *did* participate and am of course kicking myself that I didn’t do the entire challenge! That said, I think every topic you touched on, every thought you made us think, was so fitting and I can’t tell you how many “a-ha!” moments I had in this challenge. I’ve no idea about publishing books, but I don’t see why this challenge couldn’t be one.

Hi Deb. I also loved the challenge and feel that as we head into a new year, I have already gotten myself into a few good habits already so 2013 will be more about consolidating them. I was feeling pretty stressed and overwhelmed this time last year but your challenge has helped ‘centre’ me and my thoughts. I needed to get back to ‘me’ and I seemed to have done that. I know what I need to do next year to keep things simple and organised and I know that there are times when it is too busy and chaotic but I am much calmer about that as I can see e light at the end of the tunnel and with a couple of days I can misson through the jobs and get back on track quickly. I worked out how to fill my patience cup this year. I know that I can’t have clutter and too much ‘stuff’ lying around. I need to have my home feel calm for me to be calm. I know I am at my best when I exercise regularly at the gym and get my energy out and I’m pleased that 3 months ago I changed my routine around and started doing 6am classes. It has forced me not earlier bedtimes, and has me craving a healthy diet filled with fresh fruits and verges etc. I have even begun experimenting with health foods/super foods in cooking/baking and experimenting with green smoothies. Anyway, could go on… The few blog entries I did do really helped me but then I realised that I didn’t need to write anything down and I needed to be doing this for me. I did read many link ups though. I will fill out the survey over the next few weeks for you when I get back from holiday. I hope you have enjoyed your time in the states and that you have also been able to reflect and clear your mind. Thanks so much Deb and I will continue to enjoy your writing and advice in 2013.

Dear Deb

I cannot say how wonderful and timely this challenge was for me. I think it would make a fantastic book, more so that this online version as, I, and I imagine others, may prefer to work at a slower pace (each week seemed to fly and before I knew it, you were there again in my inbox with the next challenge!) and work through privately. I found the first blocks very confronting and rewarding, in fact, they changed my life. I cannot imagine that I will have ever sat down to assess just who I am, what I value etc if not for this challenge, and I cannot imagine being where I am today (far happier with direction and a simpler life and home) if it wasn’t for those challenges.

Again, thank you for all the time, effort and support you have given us this year. Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
