I don’t know about you, but I loved doing this week’s list. I am not a big photographer (I always forget to snap pics) and am not on instagram (yet). I am not someone who shares pics of her meals or daily moments – but I sure will be documenting it for myself from now on when I can…
I felt more connected to my day. I captured some things I never would have before (how beautiful are frozen red grapes from my daughter’s breakfast plate?). My kids loved that I was taking photos (why do I forget to do this?)
So here is my day Wednesday February 13, 2013!
6-7 am: I spend this time most mornings having my coffee in bed and reading, checking emails on the ipad, playing my turns on scramble and words with friends – all snuggled in bed. Lately the dog hangs with me. Sometimes my 9 year old wakes early enough and appears with her book (or I see her light on and go fetch her). We snuggle, read, and at times talk – but mostly read. This day she commented “I wish we could stay like this all day”. Me too – our shared fantasy is a whole day in bed with books with “Daddy” bringing us drinks and food.
7-8am Up and breakfast time and getting ready for school
Sometimes we all have porridge or eggs, but most morning we all want different things. Today I had eggs and toast, Alice had waffles with peanut butter on them + eggs and Lulu had eggs and frozen grapes. She has never been my breakfast eater so every day is a crap shoot of what will Lulu eat?
8-9am: Getting ready, chaos, hair brushing, out the door with the dog at 8:35 if I am lucky most days. When hubby is away it is easier to combine the dog walk with the school drop off rather than get the three of us out early enough for a dog walk before school time!
10am – 1pm Today I had a catch up with some Brisbane bloggy friends who came to my house for morning tea. Two hours stretched into three (as you do).
1-2 pm: got some work done and took care of laundry. It had poured suddenly while we were on the deck so I put most of the clothes in the dryer (guilt free) and hung out a few of my things on the rack outside.
2-3pm: more work and then second walk of the day for both me and the dog, picking up the girls at school. They LOVE us waiting there for them as all the kids at school are getting to know the 3 legged dog – comments, questions, lots of discussion about all she can do (and such surprise from them!)
3-4pm: Today was our dog’s 2nd birthday (based on the birthday date the shelter put on her papers). We celebrated with leftovers from morning tea (kids so thrilled) and a treat for Evie (the one in the centre was for the doggie), 2 candles that afterwards became 6 or 7 – you know how kids love candles! The girls sang an altered version of Happy Birthday that warmed my heart and included a wish for her to live forever.
4-5pm: Girls at dance classes (back to back so they take homework to keep busy while the other is in session) so I catch up on emails, Facebook and bits and pieces (not as productive as I planned)
5-6pm still dance class so I write a blog post and order dinner before picking them up (arrive almost 10 minutes late thanks to ordering issues)
6-7 pm: return DVD to video shop from night before (10 years – great cast but only rate it 7 out of 10 if that), eat dinner. With dance class so late we have set Wednesday as take out pizza night! Less stress and everyone happy. Just like breakfast we each have different taste so I order the smaller pizzas 1 per person.
7-8pm: Kids getting ready for bed (bedtime supposed to be 8pm but we only hit that target a few nights a week – mostly due to me getting distracted and losing track of time). In this case while they were brushing teeth I stole 10 minutes to read on my bed (book borrowed from Kirri) and was soon joined again by Alice.
8-11pm: Sit down with hubby to watch recorded season premier of Revenge (we have 2 episodes ready to watch) and of course it does not work. It keeps jumping ahead a minute at a time and we finally give up. Before we can go watch it on the laptop we shut off the dvr and the TV shows one of my favourite movies is on “The Proposal”. Miraculously (since he hates Sandra Bullock) hubby agrees to watch that instead. After 20 minutes and several rounds of commercials I finally get a clue and say “why are we watching ads when we own the DVD?” and pop that baby in. Love that hubby is laughing at various points, but he still comments on how much he can’t stand her so i think it is a rare treat.
11:30pm asleep until I wake at 5am when hubby is getting ready to catch a flight to Sydney. Happy Valentine’s Day begins (at least we had that 5am hello)
Featured list:
I decided to add another dimension to the weekly posts. I am going to spotlight at least one linked up post each week – either something funny, something inspiring, a great post that was linked up later and you might have missed, a blogger who posts every week and so on. We’ll see how it flows. This week I am featuring Beth’s list for her jobs. I just cracked up at the very cool way she approached the list – you have to go check it out!
Listmania six prompt: “Let’s talk about… blogs- baby”
We all obviously read blogs! Let’s share our favourites. There is one catch though – I want you to feature five blogs you love love love (never miss, they always deliver something – what is it?) that you have followed for a while and five blogs that you just discovered in the last 3 months (6 months if you don’t regularly explore new blogs) and instantly fell in love with (did you subscribe straight away, spend three hours lost in their archives, add three recipes to your meal plan, drool over something or everything?) – don’t just list them – share them with us. If you want to go the extra mile send them an email and let them know they made your list – everyone loves to know they have a true fan who appreciates what they are doing.
Find your simple,
Deb

I love that hubby chose to watch the movie even though he dislikes Sandra Bullock whom I love too. Bedtime for my kids seems to stretch out too but I tend to beat myself up over it, you on the other hand seem to have let go that expectation if it just doesn’t happen, hmm another thing I can learn from you

I loved seeing the pics from your day. I kept forgetting to do this so it was about 8am yesterday when I remembered and set reminders in my phone! But certainly not a typical day for me.
I love how you have spotlighted Beth’s blog! I came back on to last week’s link up last night and saw there had been heaps added since I had been on last – so I had a bit more of a blog hop around!

Oh, having just got back into reading in bed (up until recently, with little ones, I’d always fall asleep instead of reading) I share your fantasy of spending the day in bed reading! Trying to influence my daughter now too, saying ‘if you go to bed earlier with a book, you can stay up longer!’.

i know just tonight i was feeling cranky (bad weather) and wanted some space and when i said that we had actually got ready fast enough that they could have 15 minutes in bed reading – 9 year old cheered and grabbed a pile of books

You’re on fire with great ideas Deb! Loved seeing Beth’s blog (with my week, would have missed this if not for the feature) & loving the listmania topics. Been meaning to say for a while thanks for the rave about frozen grapes, you’ve got me onto them & they are perfect for a sweet, cool, healthy treat on hot nights – they’ve cast aside chocolate for me right now!!!
Shell recently posted..A day in my life
thanks Shell – and be careful with the grapes – i got addicted and ate them 3 x a day and the high sugar content made me just as sick as if i ate candy!

I like the look of the book that you’re reading. I’m not sure if I’ve seen ‘The Proposal’ – I might have to check it out while hubby is away
One thing I miss about where we live now is that we can no longer walk to school. Sounds like you had a great day!

I love that I’m not the only one who has a birthday party for their dog. Ours recently turned 12 and she got a steak “cake” with a candle on top.

I love the idea of staying in bed & reading books & letting Daddy serve you! I share that fantasy! Happy Birthday to your doggy!
maybe that is what mother’s day should become – the day that fantasy is reality ; )

Love that you have doggie snuggles in the morning too. Nothing better than to be curled up with a good book and a sleepy fur-baby

Ohhhh Debs I adore this post. I love that you see the beauty in plates of food and finished plates, this is something I just love taking pictures of!
You’ve opened your life in such a fun, lovely way, giving us a snap shot of how you do it and like most mums it’s pretty non-stop.
I’ve just linked up to a blog called Sticky Fingers Blog, where each week there is a prompt to photograph something, I love the idea of sharing photos this way, you have gone a step further. Brilliant!
