in Self care, Simplify your life 2012

Here we are at week 38 finishing another block of challenges. I hope you found this section helpful and it has led to even a few small changes – as small changes lead to bigger ones over time. Be kind to yourself and allow for slow, but permanent changes to be made. If you need to go further with your health and wellness determine what long term changes you need to make and keep setting your own mini challenges each month until you achieve them all.

We checked on our life balance again, started moving more, looked at our food choices and changes we could make, acknowledged how important rest and relaxation are, simplified our beauty rituals and prioritised self care.

This week I would love to hear how you went overall through this 6 weeks of challenges. What steps have you taken, what do you plan to carry on with, what additional changes do you plan to make?

For myself, I found great shifts happened once I started using my intentional living daily planner. By including sections to note my daily intentions with fruits and vegetables (my main food goal was to increase these), how I was going to move my body (not just gym sessions and full workouts, acknowledging the long term aim to simply move my body daily), how I wanted to feel and what I was doing for self care, I found all of these areas improved over the 6 weeks.

I went from sometimes having days where I was lucky to eat 1-2 portions of fruits and vegetables, to adding both to every meal and some snacks. I enjoyed a wide range of fruits and vegetables, prepped veggies for snacks, and brightened up some of our meals.

I went from averaging 1-2 days of exercise a week to 3-4 serious workouts (runs, classes, etc) and increased incidental exercise (like walking instead of taking the car for school runs).

I went for an overdue doctor’s appointment and made some changes to my health care. I also had an x-ray on my hand to investigate recent changes there (pain and loss of strength).

I actually sat still long enough to do my nails three times in this period and am determined to find a hairstyle I love. I have a very low key beauty approach, but most often it is due to lack of time invested and I can spare a bit more time to feel better about myself and have a little fun. Did you add or subtract from your beauty routines?

Still to come – I bought coconut oil but admit I have only tried it once so far. I plan to explore some recipes and how to use it in my diet to get the full benefits (I keep hearing about). I am determined to try quinoa again. I continue to try to get myself to bed by 10:30 but fail on this count more than any other. We booked our overseas trip to visit my family and friends in the States so I will be increasing my rest and relaxation at the end of the year!

I am confident when I do my last check of my balance wheel at the end of the challenge my health section will have improved as it is definitely going to continue being a big focus for the next 2 months for me in the lead up to our trip.

Three challenge sections to go – relationships and family; holidays and rituals; money and work. Are you still with me?

Yes! Of course I am still with you. A bit panicked by the year nearly over, but rejoicing too as I’ll be able to look back and say ‘wow, look how far I’ve come” AND I get to go to New York again (even if only online through your posts). Can’t wait? When do we leave? Times Square for NYE?

Of course you are still with me xxx thanks again for always being the first to comment and carry on the conversation with me. I am a bit panicked as well so we are in it together (except I now have to finish writing all the challenge posts before we go in November as I know i won’t be able to write them on the road – eek!)

New Year’s Eve we will be on the flight back to Australia – need to figure out when we will actually hit midnight to celebrate (trusting Virgin to announce it on the plane LOL) will be in the states Nov 21- new Years xxx

I know I feel off the wagon months ago, I thought I had everything figured out. I changed a lot of habits – I’m much more positive, I’m much more active, I’m much more focused on my family. Now I’ve gone to the other extreme. I am burned way out. I need to read over the last few weeks and reassess my weekly schedule. Something’s gotta give, and I do NOT want it to be my mental health! I’m glad to hear that you are moving more and making lots of great changes for your overall health. x

Hi Deb, I am still here but I stopped doing the written updates/links as we had an overseas holiday and a family wedding, so I took a month off and when I came back from that I found myself throwing myself into the challenges, catching up (organising spare room and study in particular) rather than writing about them. I ended up doing them out of order as well. I will aim to do a link up this week with a quick summary of where I am at. Still loving the challenge and still very much here – just not online as much…

Hey Em – don’t worry about updating if it is too much – just wanted to know who was still keen to carry on with me as I need the energy to do the last few batches myself!! Hope your holiday was fab – now that i want to hear about ; )

I’m here, still with you. Just a little slow. I’m not moving forward until I clean out my bathroom cupboard, which I committed myself to. lol.

Still with you Deb and loving the habit I have gotten into with the challenges. I’m looking forward to the next block, but glad to have a consolidation week so I can catch up on last week. But the whole thing has been really great so far.

Hi Deb,
I am still here. I can’t believe we have covered 38 weeks already. I have learned so much. I have increased my exercise from 2 days/week to 4 days/week. Thanks to you I just decluttered my entire house, garage, & attic. I feel so much better! I just signed up for the 30 day self care course, and looking forward to it. My older children just moved back home this week (25yr. old son, 28 yr. old daughter, and 3 yr. old granddaughter). I need this challenge to get me through the rest of the year! I will be right here!
Thanks again for all you do!

I’m still here. I’ve been struggling with this block. Partly because I am honestly busy but I will be honest and admit that I think I am putting off the self care and am running out of reasons why. This block has got me thinking and I have plans, I WILL find the time to put them in to place and I will definitely be here until the end :)

Running out of reasons and thinking are very good steps for now – next is deciding what you want and making it a priority – one baby step at a time – you are worth it xx

I am still here…a little behind in the challenges, but still loving the journey! Once I implement some of the things I identified in the self-care challenges, I will check in. One of the items is to re-implement your intentional living daily planner and after reading what you have been gaining from it, I am reaching for it right now!! It will now be joining me for my morning coffee every morning! Looking forward to where the next block takes us.
