The latest book to occupy my bedside table has been “Let’s pretend this never happened” by Jenny Lawson (aka The Blogess). If you’ve never read her blog click on that link AFTER you finish here (or I am sure you will never return as you will be too busy laughing your ass off).
I cannot remember the last time I read something that had me laughing so consistently and so hysterically.
I have not been to the gym much lately, but I know my abs are getting a workout thanks to the endless cackling coming from my side of the bed. I owe my husband an apology as I have tried hard to swallow my laughter so he could keep reading the third Hunger Games book (or god forbid – sleep!), but when I did that all we got was a shaky bed.
I was reading the chapter where she takes way too many laxatives (trust me – get the book) and without even asking if he wanted me to read aloud I started sharing so he could understand why I was shaking and had tears rolling down my face. Well I tried to read aloud, but what he heard instead was read – read – read – choke – laugh – busting a gut – read – read – choke – sputter – crying – laugh – read -read!
I had been reading the book everywhere (including while I was cooking at the stove) and the kids got used to my endless laughter from all corners of the house. They kept asking what was so funny (including my 7 year old whining “come onnnnn tell me what she says”) and at one stage my almost 9 year old tried to read over my shoulder. For the first time I had to point out that some books are inappropriate (in this case I imagine for so many people).
Yesterday I was finishing the book and laughing – ok howling – yet again. Lulu was complaining to Alice about all that laughter again (so noisy and interrupting their conversation and crafting). Alice’s reply was “let her laugh like crazy, she doesn’t usually laugh that much”. Wow – can one be so immune to the fact that they don’t laugh much? I am sure I do laugh regularly, but just in case I think I might just start the book again and laugh some more. I will admit I really needed that laugh and thank you Jenny Lawson – you certainly delivered.
Get yourself a copy as soon as possible and try not to disturb anyone’s sleep.

Sounds like I need to get my hands on that book! Nothing beats a good belly laugh, does it? (Well, SOME things do…
This week I’m grateful for words, and my ability to put them together in a semi-coherent way. I’ve rediscovered a love of writing and this week saw me launch something into the world that I’ve been working hard on. It feels bloody good!
I’m also grateful for two nights on my own over the weekend. Uninterrupted sleep! Showers on my own! Drinking an entire coffee! (Blogopolis is on in Sydney.)
Have an awesome weekend Deb! xx

I just picked this book for our book club this month! I’m only to the chapter where she meets victor and it’s already had me laughing! The part where she was in high school and went on the “field trip” and got stuck in the cow was hilarious!!
It just gets better and better – I swear the deeper I got in the book the more i was crying from hysterics. I can only imagine your book club gathering!

Well it sounds like this book is a must for me!

I have only ever read one book that made me laugh like that (it had me laughing out loud on the train!), but when I re-read it a few years ago, I couldn’t understand why I had found it so funny! It didn’t seem funny at all then. Such a disappointment!
Looking forward to trying this one!

Isn’t it funny how we can change so much that our tastes change completely (i feel let down sometimes by films I used to love, but then i feel they served their purpose I guess at the right time)

How could I possibly resist getting that book now??
David Sedaris books do this exact same thing to me. I cannot read them in public in case I wet my pants. x
