Last weekend we had a three day weekend thanks to the Queen (thank you kindly), but the weather seemed to want us to stay home and congregate under blankets as it was cold, dreary and full of intense rain. What I needed more than anything else was the brightening of my world. First decision was to treat myself to my favourite flowers – yellow tulips plus purple irises. All week I have had the pleasure of looking at them and enjoying the bright colour – especially those tulips. Someday I will visit my friend in the Netherlands and enjoy a sea of tulips.

Then one of the highlights of the rainy weekend was time spent chatting with my girls while we coloured in our “fancy” colouring books (read: more detailed colouring books that even I enjoy colouring in). I find it relaxing just picking out colours from our big twistable pack of pencils and calmly filling up the page. Colouring and lettering have been a big thing this week so am thinking my girls needed some colour in their lives too.
I have to say one of my surprise favourites recently has been the purchase of a jewellery display stand last week. I decided I wanted to be able to see all my bracelets and necklaces as I have been collecting so many pieces recently. I tend to wear solid colour tops and add these pieces to enjoy them every day. Now I find myself looking at the display and being lifted up by all the colour and varying my selections more. Even the kids and hubby have noticed the stand and stopped to look at them. Such a simple way to brighten up my bedroom.
Small recent inexpensive (thanks to sales) purchases have been new vases – 2 red and 1 blue – loving them dotted in my living room. They too lift my spirits.
Lastly I am grateful that I have a husband who stops to text me on his way to work alerting me to the presence of a new bird he noticed on his way out the door. I am now on the lookout to spot a blue faced honeyeater and can’t wait to see that gorgeous face.
It is now Thursday afternoon and the sky is almost the same blue as my vase and the sun is shining. I have my fingers crossed that the weather will stay with us through the weekend so we can get out from under those blankets this time. If not, I imagine more flowers and more colouring along with a few choice DVDs will keep us happy.
What are you grateful for this week?
Find your simple,
Deb

Hello girls! Look at your gorgeous smiling faces sneaking in there!
Sounds like the rain helped you hit ‘pause’, Deb. Perfect! x

They were so little then – and so cute! You can just see my husband poking out between the vase and frame too ; )
I hit pause and now need to hit it again – June might be a bit much for me (put too much on my plate!)

Flowers most definitely make me smile. My sister in law dropped in last weekend and brought me a bunch of flowers to congratulate me on my recent change of career. How lovely. I have been ogling them and smiling over them all week. Small pleasures.
