All the little things add up to a big thing…

in Gratitude and Changing Mindset

It is Friday so it is time for me to share my weekly dose of gratitude. Have you started blogging about gratitude and want to link up with Maxabella Loves? If you simply want a boost in feel good read some of the posts linked up there.

A bit of a mixed bag this week, but still loads to be grateful for:

Do-overs: hit the reset button!

I had a hard few days adjusting to my mother’s arrival and the gratitude did not flow after I posted about it last Friday. It took until Monday evening for me to fully understand why I was so cranky with her and on Wednesday I apologised and asked her if we could start over. As an introvert I should have prepared for big changes ahead – Mom arrived and kids finished school for the summer all in 2 days. I then had not been alone for days on end, had not exercised, felt guilty even attempting to blog, aaaargh I needed alone time to think and stop stressing.  Since then we have figured out ways for me to get just that and I feel 80% better (still a tiny bit bitchy at times though – baby steps I guess)

People sharing the love!

In the last week I have received a handful of emails and comments on (or about) the blog that just touched my heart. I may not get 30 comments on my posts, but I cherish every single message you lovely people care to throw my way. I wish I did not need to receive them, but am grateful for the messages that give my mood (and my confidence) a boost.

Someone else doing the washing up!

Even with a dishwasher there always seems to be so much stuff to hand wash and this is one task my mother has been stepping in to do. I so appreciate walking into the kitchen to find the work already in progress or done. I also know hubby feels the same about the business shirt ironing fairy that has visited twice already in the first week. This falls into the same category as how extra- tasty food is when it is prepared by others and how incredible that made-by-others cup of coffee is. Being taken care of – even just in little ways – feels so good.

A husband who knows me better than I know myself!

This past weekend was hubby’s work Christmas party. Almost all the friends (via the office) we have made these last five years have been made redundant or jumped ship this year. I decided to opt out of attending, but two days before the party a lovely girl in his office asked if I was coming. Hubby left it up to me, but pointed out I did still know some people there and it would be a fun night out. I agreed before I knew it would be a stormy wet night. Mother nature was winning – I was tired, getting cranky and every half hour that afternoon I tried to bail on the party. My husband, usually so easy going – bullied me and pushed me into going. He told me I would have fun once I got there, agreed to travel by cabs, and vowed not to leave me alone… Well of course he was right – the food was amazing, we were seated at a table with two couples I do know, I danced my butt off and, as shared on Facebook, even rode the electric bull (in a dress) at this Western themed shindig!

Gifts to make me smile – even though I don’t know who sent them – yet!

A couple of months ago I was excited to see Chantelle Ellem from Fat Mum Slim (you do read FMS right?) was organising a Social Media Secret Santa. It’s been eight years at home with no office party of my own to attend. I felt lucky that I had started blogging and was now connected to a tribe of sorts – I have an identity besides mother and wife again. Even if some people raise their eyebrows as they figure out what I am up to – others 100% “get it” and now I am connected to them.  So of course I signed up – and time passed – and I sent out my gift – and that person raved about it making me all giddy – and then – then my parcel arrived. I had to fight my kids off  the adult version of the crayon roll (and am still not sure how that yellow highlighter mark got on there since denials all around), but I am one happy camper. So thank you a million times to the lovely soul I was paired up with and I cannot wait to find out who you are and thank you properly!

Stay tuned for next week’s post as it will include an interview with someone fabulous from the world of gratitude!

What are you grateful for this week?

Find your simple,

Deb

I clash with my mum when she visits, but I do miss her dish-washing ability when she goes! I’m busting to find out who my secret Santa is, too, because my gift was spot-on perfect!

Maybe the dish washing is meant to balance the clashes (kind of like kids looking so darn cute so we let their antics slide…)

Thanks – It is something I am committed to but had to laugh as the last 2 days i have been busy and the blog has been quiet so I did not reply for the first time…on Laura’s guest post. Cutting myself some slack! I know I hate it when i leave a comment of substance on a blog and get no reply (even though that is totally normal for many sites)

I’m in the Secret Santa too and I was so delighted with my pressie. I think I had just as much fun getting one for my ‘gal’ as well. Great idea from Chantelle and lovely to spread a bit more Christmas cheer. x
