101 ideas for family fun and adventure

by Debra Dane on February 28, 2012

in Rhythm, Rituals & Routines

Last week for my 40th birthday I asked you all for only one thing – ideas for fun and adventure – to help my family create our fun bucket list for the year. In my attempts to stop being an observer and start having fun with a capital F, I wanted to create a resource of ideas for when we want to try something new or go further away than the usual stomping grounds. I think with the following list of 101 ideas we should all have a fabulous and fun year ahead!

Once I started putting this together memories came flooding back of things we have done in the past (like the Merry Un-birthday party we had one year when my mother was visiting and wanted to celebrate with her grandkids). If reading this list triggers more ideas please share them in the comments – who knows I might just create more lists in the future (seasonal? holidays?).

My plan is to create a bucket list for my family to choose from (they are in charge and I have to say yes to everything). You could create some form of bucket list or simply print the list out and highlight what you want to do, or tick off things as you do them.

Whatever you do – have fun! Don’t worry about looking silly or not knowing how to do something. Act like a child and just “have a go” and let them good times roll.

Find your simple,

Deb

That’s a great list! I think we might start a family bucket list and take a photo of each event to create a little album of the year.

A great list would be of things we did as kids that are not as common today – classic board and card games, hand games, chinese jump rope and double dutch etc

Thanks! That is fab that he is having fun with the camera at 3. Our 8 year old was desperate for a camera to be in control of so we finally got her a decent one for Christmas – these kids are so lucky they are growing up with digital cameras that you can relax and really enjoy without spending money on film and developing (and the photos can be hysterical at times!) Enjoy!

Thank you so much for this. I love love love it!!
I actually did one thing from the list last night. My 2 year old daughter asked if we could go for a bike ride after dinner. The sensible me says no – it’s a school night. But out loud I hear myself saying, sure why not. So off we went after dinner my 5 year old, my 2 year old and myself – hubby decided to stay home and do the dishes. Rode along the walking/bike track. Had a 5 minute play on the playground and home again. We had to cut showers out (they had them this morning instead) and quite play was shortened – but it’s great to say yes!

Definitely true Nicole. I especially love board games from childhood and recently got my 7yo “Sorry” for her birthday as I loved it as a kid. I also brought back from Europe my husband’s game of “Stay Alive” – both connect us with our kids and fun times from our own childhoods!

What a great list and resource to have. I will be bookmarking this for sure! Some I don’t feel ready to try just yet (e.g. picnic on the lounge room floor – our kids make enough mess on the dining room floor!), but I’m thinking there are probably at least 95 ideas there for me!

What a great point about your own memories, it’s a great way of sharing memories of you own childhood by building new memories and experiences revisiting them and giving them a go. Also what a gret way to have your children see and understand you more too.
